Reset or maintain: why LED light therapy and hydrodermabrasion sit at different layers

If you have wondered whether LED light therapy is something you add on to another treatment or book on its own, the answer comes down to one thing: unlike a resurfacing pass, LED does not remove anything from your skin.

The reset layer

Hydrodermabrasion does active work in the moment. A water-based tip lifts away dead surface cells, congestion and blackheads while flooding hydrating solutions back in on the same pass, so skin is not left stripped. Skin is left clean and hydrated, with little to no downtime beyond occasional brief pinkness. It is a reset - a clear-out and a top-up in one comfortable 40-minute session. It suits congestion and dull surface build-up, and a hydrodermabrasion session can also be booked on its own between deeper work.

The maintenance layer

LED light therapy works the other way. It does not exfoliate, suction or disturb the surface. Because nothing is being taken away, there is no 'instead of' - it can sit on top of a hydrodermabrasion or a clinical facial as a calm final step, or stand on its own as a quiet session. What LED can do for your skin is worked out in your consultation rather than promised up front. Because it is gentle and non-invasive, it is a step that can be repeated regularly, which is why we think of it as a maintenance layer rather than a reset.

Why irritated skin does better with a gentle pattern

When skin feels congested or a little irritated, the instinct is to do more, and harder - but an aggressive treatment on already-sensitive skin can set it back rather than settle it. As a rule, a gentle, spaced pattern tends to be kinder than one heavy session. Which steps suit your skin, and how often to space them, is personal and worth mapping out rather than guessing.

Derma Regen Clinic is a nurse-led studio in North Strathfield, NSW, with a Korean-inspired approach to skin. If you are not sure whether LED belongs on its own or layered onto something else, the clearest next step is a proper look in person.
